How to choose a brass floor lamp

For reading, choose a lamp whose shade sits just above shoulder height when you are seated, about 40 to 49 inches from the floor to the bottom of the shade, and place it slightly behind the chair. For ambient light in a corner, a taller lamp with an open or upward shade spreads light across the ceiling.
